what's the difference? a rape is a rape
In the Bible what counts is who is being raped. If it's the wife or fiancée of another man the rape is seen as an affront to the man (i.e. the owner of the woman) and merits the death penalty.
If it's a single woman, she is technically the property of her father who ordinarily would get a price for giving (selling) his daughter into marriage. If she were to be raped however, she would no longer be virgin and that would make her, in a manner of speaking, spoiled merchandise. (No man would pay full price for a non-virgin wife, in fact a woman who is not virgin on her wedding night was to be executed - Deuteronomy 22:13-21). Therefore the rapist has to pay the full price of a bride to her father and is stuck with her.
Like the old saying, you break it, you buy it.

@ billy - Bible requirement at Deut. 22:28,29 that the victim be forced to marry her rapist?
Doesn't the verses just before that indicate that a rape victim doen't need two witnesses? It says if no one is around (to hear her scream) then she is considered innocent and the rapist must die.
That's another scripture which is talking about an engaged woman having to scream if she's raped. Deuteronomy 22:28-29 is talking about a single woman.

Rodney Spinks is claiming that they had a document stating that the victim should not have to confront their abuser. The commission said they had no such document and that they would like to see it. He lies! -

The commission already tried to contact Jackson and Jackson refused to meet them.

Rodney Spinks "We have no issue with mandatory reporting."
He keeps repeating the phrase "mandatory reporting" as if that's the only moral responsibility he has. He is better than the previous witnesses.

Has the WT ever said it's okay to steak rare?
by neverendingjourney ini'm revisiting an old topic here, but this was a subject of much confusion for me when i was still a witness.
i went to a spanish congregation in the u.s. and it seemed to be taken for granted by most that you needed to cook beef thoroughly to "get rid" of the blood.
i was surprised when i learned that folks in the english speaking hall would order a steak medium-rare and think nothing of it.. it wasn't until after i left the witnesses that it started to occur to me that if the red fluid that was present when you'd cut the beef was blood, cooking it thoroughly wouldn't get rid of it, it'd just cook it and transform it into another color.

I always thought it strange that for a religion that used to forbid a single drop of blood in transfusion they would be so lax in preparing their meat.
